Book: The Missing
Author: Chris Mooney
A quotation from the novel that caught my attention:
"How did you become interesting? Was it something you were born with, like your hair colour or your height? Or did God decide for you? Maybe God chose who was interesting and who wasn't, and you just had to learn to live with whatever you were handed."
My continuation & spontaneous writing:
It is said that everyone is special in their own way. Well, I could simply agree and continue, however the word "everyone" lingers in my mind. No, not everyone is "special" in their own way, some are just the same, labelled as being bland and could be easily duplicated and placed in this world. You think I'm being too harsh? Well, don't you ever come across a person where the most in depth conversation you could ever have with them is "what homework do we have?". Or what about that person who rambles on and on about how (extremely boring) their day went? Yeah, I'm sure you've met one of those characters in your life, don't deny it.
Our life experiences make us who we are, without them we are bland, hence, un-interesting. With experience comes wisdom, which in turn makes us captivating. Our knowledge is a reward for our trials and tribulations which shape us into becoming interesting individuals.
I always wonder and wish I hadn't experienced such difficult moments in my life, but then I'd just be part of that "un-interesting" group I have previously mentioned. What history or advice can I give to a friend if I had never experienced sadness? Nothing. So If you ever feel blue, just remember what you're going through makes you an individual of character in the future. And if convincing yourself doesn't work, well, go skydiving or what have you, there's a story to share with the grandchildren.
The End.
